How Our Post-Bacc Linkage Program Works
If you’re researching our Master of Science in Medical Sciences programs, you’ve probably already read about our dynamic classrooms that use predictive analytics to help you succeed on your pathway to medical school. You’ll be aware of our commitment to diversifying the healthcare workforce, and of the fact that we have eight partner campuses across the U.S.
But one of the things you might want to know most about is our linkage program with medical schools. Many students interested in pursuing a post-bacc are also interested in linkages. This article explains the linkage opportunities Tiber Health partner school offers, and why we provide them.
What Is a Post-Bacc Linkage Program?
First, it’s important to understand what a post-bacc linkage program is. Linkages are formal agreements between medical schools and post-bacc programs that create preferential admissions consideration opportunities for students. That is, students who complete a linked post-bacc can have their application to that medical school considered ahead of other students.
Linkages usually set minimum performance requirements for GPA and MCAT scores. Without those scores, students are not as likely to be specially considered for admission to the linked school. So, linkages offer an additional opportunity—not a guarantee.
Why We Offer Linkages
We offer linkage opportunities because we want to help talented students get into medical and health professional schools. Having linkages gives students clear performance targets to aim for, and it offers the medical schools we partner with a stream of well-qualified applicants. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.
Here are the linkage options available to Tiber Health MSMS students.
Ponce Health Science University School of Medicine
Students at all Tiber Health partner schools can access our linkage with Ponce Health Sciences University School of Medicine. Based in Puerto Rico with a campus in St. Louis, PHSU SOM’s MD program is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), and has graduated more than 2,000 physicians over more than 40 years.
PHSU trains physicians who can serve patients in both English and Spanish, making it ideal for students who want to serve the growing Hispanic population in the U.S. and contribute to the reduction of health disparities in the Hispanic community.
The top 20% of each graduating class from any Tiber Health MSMS program can take advantage of a guaranteed admissions interview with PHSU. Other graduates will receive preferential consideration of their overall application.
A.T. Still University – Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine
The MSMS programs at PHSU St. Louis and Saint Xavier University in Chicago offer an additional linkage opportunity with the A.T. Still University (ATSU) Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Based in Kirksville, Missouri, ATSU is the world’s first and oldest osteopathic medical school, founded in 1892 by Andrew Taylor Still, who developed the discipline of osteopathic medicine.
Graduates of the MSMS at PHSU St. Louis or Saint Xavier University who obtain a GPA of 3.4 and an MCAT score of at least 500 can receive a guaranteed admissions interview to either the Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) program or the pharmacy program at A.T. Still.
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
MSMS graduates from Saint Xavier University have a third linkage opportunity at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). According to U.S. News and World Report, LECOM is among the best medical schools in the nation when it comes to the number of primary care doctors and doctors who serve in rural areas it graduates.
To receive a guaranteed admissions interview to LECOM’s DO or pharmacy programs, graduates of the Saint Xavier University MSMS must obtain a 3.4 GPA and an MCAT score of at least 500.
