Interested in earning your Master of Science in Medical Sciences (MSMS) with a Tiber Health university partner, but not sure how to decide which one? We’re here to help: this blog post provides some questions to consider as you make your choice. It also introduces you to some of the unique features each of our university partners have to offer.
Where Do You Want to Study?
Whichever MSMS partner you choose, you’ll spend a full year immersed in rigorous, pre-clinical medical education. Make sure you pick a partner in a location where you can feel comfortable and supported.
Our nine partners are geographically diverse. There’s an MSMS in nearly every region of the country, including:
- The South: Southeastern University (Lakeland, Fla.), Simmons College of Kentucky (Louisville, Ky.), Jacksonville University (Jacksonville, Fla.)
- The Northeast/Mid-Atlantic: Marymount University (Arlington, Va.), Lasell University (Newton, Mass.)
- The Midwest: Ponce Health Sciences University (St. Louis, Mo.), National University of Health Sciences (Lombard, Ill.), Bethel University (Minneapolis, Minn.)
- The West: Southern California University of Health Sciences (Los Angeles, Calif.)
You can earn your MSMS in small, medium or large cities, choose to study near a beach or in a location known for its fall color. It depends on your preferences.
What’s Your Schedule Like?
Can’t study full time, or can’t relocate to study? Consider pursuing your MSMS online. Some of our partners offer a 12- or 20-month online version of the program. It features the same curriculum and same support as the in-person program, just in a more convenient, more accessible format.
Partners with online MSMS offerings include:
- Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS, 12 months or 20 months)
- Jacksonville University (20 months)
- Ponce Health Sciences University (12 months or 20 months)
Do You Prefer a Particular Type of Institution?
Our MSMS partners each have unique missions. Consider choosing a partner whose mission aligns with your own identity or values. For example, both Bethel University and Southeastern University (SEU) are Christian institutions that infuse their academic programs with faith. SEU offers faith-based learning opportunities on campus, and Bethel challenges MSMS students to understand the relationship between their spiritual and career callings.
Tiber Health is also dedicated to increasing the diversity of the healthcare workforce. All of our partners have diverse campus populations. We’re proud to partner with Simmons College of Kentucky, one of America’s historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Ponce Health Sciences University has its home campus in Ponce, Puerto Rico as well as a diverse student body at its St. Louis, Missouri campus.
What Kind of Medicine Do You Want to Practice?
All of our partner universities can equip you to apply to MD programs, dental programs, and other health professional programs. Some of them also have expertise in training specific healthcare practitioners that can inform their delivery of the MSMS.
For example, if you’re interested in a whole-person approach to healthcare, two of our university partners may interest you. SCUHS and National University of Health Sciences are both known for excellence in integrative healthcare as well as allopathic health science.
SCUHS offers programs in acupuncture, occupational therapy, chiropractic, and other fields alongside its physician assistant and MSMS programs. National University is known for its naturopathic medicine program as well as its acupuncture and ayurvedic education.
What Linkages Interest You Most?
Graduates from any of our university partners who are among the top 20% of academic performers in their MSMS class can receive a guaranteed interview with Ponce Health Science University’s MD program. Other partners offer additional linkage opportunities. For example:
- Jacksonville University has a linkage with Lake Erie College of Medicine’s doctor of osteopathic medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy programs.
- Lasell University has a linkage with the MD program at St. George’s University School of Medicine, which offers unique study-abroad opportunities.
